I hadn’t planned this second post today, but in proofreading the first post, I noticed a name among the women pro-life leaders from 2004 that I’d listed. Dr. Mildred F. Jefferson, I’d known nothing about, 20 years ago. But I just last year stumbled across her name and life in detail, and I’d been both happy and dismayed. Happy, at all she accomplished, and not just for the cause of life, but also dismayed that as involved as I was 20+ years ago, I had never had my attention drawn to know of her and her great work and leadership, all those years ago. More on that in the next video:
I’m still searching for more clips of her speaking, rather than mostly white folks speaking of her, but here is one:
Dr. Jefferson passed in 2010. What a pioneer: first woman to graduate Harvard Medical School. And first Black woman to do so. And so much more.
Maybe for the rest of the month, I’ll do some extra posts on the Black women leaders admired like Dr. Jefferson, both publicly-known and not so publicly-known. Stay tuned.
